About the role | Mō Te Tūranga
We are looking for reliable lifeguards that are available to work a variety of hours. Our lifeguards work on a roster across a variety of shift that includes weekends, school holidays as well as regular week-day hours.
Ideally, you will have lifeguard qualifications and experience, but if you don't full training may be provided.
As a member of our pool team your duties include:
- Actively guarding the pool area.
- Enforcing pool rules.
- Responding to emergencies and providing medical care.
- Cleaning of pool area, changing rooms and toilets. Some in-pool cleaning is required.
- Water testing and reporting.
- Reception and cash handling as needed
- Administration tasks as needed

You will bring a strong commitment to health and safety standards and be driven to deliver excellent customer service to our community.
Naturally you will be a confident swimmer.
Our process / To Tatou Tukanga
Successful candidates will be invited to an information session and to participate in a swim competency test held in September.
The swim competency test involves:
- Swim 200m freestyle in under 6 minutes (in togs, goggles are permitted)
- Swim 50m breaststroke (fully clothed)
- Swim 25m sidestroke (fully clothed)
- Retrieve an object from the bottom of the deepest part of the pool (fully clothed without goggles)
- Tread water for 5 minutes (fully clothed)
All pool lifeguard in New Zealand, need to hold the Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC) and a current first aid certificate. Pool Lifeguard Skills Award (PLSA) and first aid training will be provided, if successful.
Please note you must be 16 years of age by September 7, 2025 to apply.
We are committed to the protection and wellbeing of children. This role is classified as a Children's Worker role under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014. As such applicants will be required to undergo police vetting process.
